Palladium Hotel Mykonos Review

Luxury Stay Near Platis Gialos

Mykonos is one of those islands where the hotel you choose quietly shapes the entire experience. The island is beautiful, glamorous and exciting, but it can also be expensive, busy and difficult to navigate if you are not staying in the right area.

When we visited Mykonos, we stayed at Palladium Hotel in Platis Gialos, and it ended up being one of the most memorable parts of our Greece trip. I wanted somewhere that felt luxurious and polished, but still warm and personal. I also wanted to be close to the beach, have access to good food, and avoid staying somewhere that felt too chaotic or overly party-focused.

Palladium gave us that balance beautifully. It felt stylish, comfortable and intimate, but what really made it stand out was the service. This is one of the friendliest five-star hotels I have experienced, and I think the family-run feeling has a lot to do with that.

This is my full Palladium Hotel Mykonos review, including the rooms, breakfast, gluten-free food, service, location, nearby beaches, things to be mindful of in Mykonos and whether I would stay again.

Quick Hotel Snapshot

  • Quick Hotel Snapshot
  • Hotel: Palladium Hotel Mykonos
  • Location: Platis Gialos, Mykonos
  • Style: Five-star boutique luxury hotel
  • Best for: Couples, beach stays, luxury travellers, first-time Mykonos visitors
  • Atmosphere: Stylish, warm, polished and relaxed
  • My verdict: A beautiful Mykonos hotel if you want excellent service, luxurious rooms, strong breakfast, beach access and a calmer base near Platis Gialos.

Location: Why Platis Gialos Worked So Well

Palladium Hotel is located in Platis Gialos, one of the most practical beach areas to stay in Mykonos. This location worked beautifully because it gave us beach access, nearby restaurants and a relaxed coastal atmosphere without making us feel completely removed from the island’s main energy.

One of the best parts of the hotel is that it is close to the beach. You can walk down and enjoy Platis Gialos without needing to organise a transfer every time you want to be by the water. That makes a real difference in Mykonos because taxis, transfers, beach clubs and restaurant bookings can quickly make the island feel expensive and over-planned.

The location also gives you access to nearby beach areas like Psarou, Paraga and Paradise, depending on how you want to spend the day. If you want a more polished beach-club feel, places like Nammos, Scorpios and SantAnna are within reach, but I would always plan those intentionally rather than casually because Mykonos pricing can be intense.

We also walked from the hotel towards town one day. Going towards town was easier because it was downhill, but coming back was definitely more of a hassle and felt like work. It is doable, but I would not casually rely on walking both ways unless you are prepared for the return.

First Impressions: Stylish, Warm and Truly Welcoming

Palladium felt elegant from the moment we arrived, but not in a cold or overly formal way. It has a boutique luxury feel rather than a large resort atmosphere, and that made the stay feel more personal.

The biggest first impression was the staff. They were genuinely some of the friendliest staff I have seen in a five-star hotel. Because the hotel is family-run, the service felt warm and personal rather than scripted. The owner greeted guests at breakfast and around reception, and that completely changed the energy of the hotel. There is something special about staying somewhere where the people running the property are visibly present and involved. It made the hotel feel cared for, and it made us feel looked after in a way that did not feel forced.

In Mykonos, where so many places can feel commercial or overly scene-focused, that warmth made Palladium stand out immediately.

Rooms: Fancy, Comfortable and Full of Mykonos Style

The rooms at Palladium felt very Mykonos in the best way. They were stylish, unique and a little bit fancy, but still comfortable enough to properly relax in after a long day out.

The design has a soft Cycladic influence, but it is not plain or basic. It feels more polished and elevated, with a distinctive style that makes the rooms feel different from a standard luxury hotel. The bed was very comfortable, which mattered after long days exploring beaches, Mykonos Town and the island by scooter. We also had lovely views from the hotel and our room balcony, which made the stay feel even more special. In Mykonos, views and outdoor space matter because so much of the island experience is about light, sea, sky and that whitewashed coastal atmosphere.

If I were booking again, I would compare room categories carefully and look closely at balcony, sea-view or higher-category rooms. Mykonos hotel prices can move quickly, and the room type can make a big difference to how luxurious the stay feels.

Breakfast: Amazing, Gluten-Free Friendly and Thoughtful

Breakfast was one of the strongest parts of our stay at Palladium. It was genuinely amazing, and for me, it was especially memorable because I am vegetarian and cannot have gluten.

There were so many gluten-free options, and they were clearly marked, which made breakfast feel easy rather than stressful. That is not something I take for granted when travelling. In many hotels, gluten-free breakfast means asking multiple questions, worrying about shared utensils or feeling limited to fruit and coffee. At Palladium, it felt like they had actually thought about guests with dietary needs. One of the most thoughtful moments was when the hotel packed some items for me to take away for lunch without me even asking. That kind of service is rare. It showed that they were not just responding to requests, but noticing what would make the day easier.

I also had one of the best gluten-free pizzas of my entire Greece trip at the hotel. Good gluten-free pizza is not always easy to find when travelling, so this was a real highlight. It made the food experience at Palladium feel not just convenient, but genuinely enjoyable.

For anyone who is gluten-free, vegetarian or travelling with dietary requirements, this is one of the biggest reasons I would recommend Palladium.

Pool, Spa and Hotel Atmosphere

The pool area added to the relaxed, polished feeling of the hotel. Mykonos is known for its beaches, but having a beautiful pool area at the hotel gives you flexibility. You do not always have to organise beach clubs, sunbeds or transfers to enjoy the day.

The atmosphere around the hotel felt stylish but calm. It gave us space to slow down between exploring the island, going to the beach and heading into town. That balance is important in Mykonos because the island can easily become expensive and high-energy if every day is built around beach clubs and late nights.

Palladium felt like a place where you could enjoy the glamour of Mykonos without feeling swallowed by it.

Getting Around Mykonos from Palladium

We experienced Mykonos in a few different ways from the hotel, and I think that worked well.

One day, we stayed local around Platis Gialos and enjoyed the beach area. Another day, I hired a scooter and used it for a day trip around Mykonos, which gave us a much better feel for the island beyond just the hotel and beach. It made the trip more flexible and allowed us to explore at our own pace.

We also walked towards town one day. As I mentioned earlier, going down towards town was easier, but walking back was definitely harder because of the uphill return. It is something to keep in mind if you are planning to rely on walking.

My husband also bought beer from a local store and enjoyed it back in the hotel setting, which became one of those simple travel moments that felt relaxed and easy. Not every experience needs to be a big planned activity; sometimes the best moments are the quiet ones around the hotel.

Best Activities Near Palladium Hotel Mykonos

One of the best things about staying at Palladium is that you can shape your Mykonos days in different ways. The hotel is close enough to the beach for easy slow days, but also well positioned for exploring the more famous parts of the island.

Platis Gialos Beach is the easiest place to start because it is close to the hotel and gives you that classic Mykonos beach feeling without needing much planning. You can spend part of the day by the water, have lunch nearby and return to the hotel without making the day complicated.

Psarou Beach and Nammos Village are nearby if you want the more glamorous side of Mykonos, with luxury shopping, beach clubs and that polished island atmosphere Mykonos is known for.

Scorpios and SantAnna are also worth considering if you want a more curated beach-club experience, but these are places I would research and book carefully because minimum spends, drink prices and daybed costs can vary significantly.

Mykonos Town is still essential, even if you are staying near the beach. It is where you go for the windmills, Little Venice, whitewashed streets, shopping, sunset views and dinner. I would go in the evening when the light is softer and the town feels more atmospheric.

Delos is the best cultural day trip if you want something beyond beaches and restaurants. It adds history and depth to a Mykonos itinerary, which is useful because the island can otherwise feel very beach and nightlife focused.

Gluten-Free and Vegetarian-Friendly Food Near Palladium

Food was one of the reasons Palladium worked so well for me. The hotel itself handled gluten-free options beautifully, especially at breakfast, and the gluten-free pizza I had there was one of the best I had in Greece.

Near the hotel, Avli Tou Thodori is one of the strongest names to know around Platis Gialos. It is a beachfront restaurant and is often recommended for gluten-free travellers, which makes it a useful option when you want a meal close to the beach without guessing.

Anios Beachfront Restaurant is another Platis Gialos option to consider, with Greek and Mediterranean food in a beachside setting. I would still confirm gluten-free preparation before ordering, especially around shared fryers, bread and sauces.

Thea Restaurant is also close by and works well if you want a calmer meal with sea views. For vegetarian and gluten-free travellers, I would look for simple Greek dishes, salads, grilled vegetables, yoghurt-based dishes, potatoes and clearly prepared gluten-free options.

That said, the biggest comfort was knowing the hotel itself had strong food options. When you have a gluten allergy, having a hotel that understands gluten-free properly makes the entire stay feel easier.

Service: The Defining Feature of Palladium

If I had to choose one thing that made Palladium special, it would be the service.

The staff were warm, thoughtful and genuinely accommodating throughout the stay. The owner greeting everyone personally at breakfast and around reception made the hotel feel less like a typical five-star property and more like a place with real care behind it.

The small gestures mattered. The way they handled breakfast, the way they packed food for me without being asked, the way they were friendly without being intrusive — all of it made the stay feel personal.

In luxury travel, service is often what separates a beautiful hotel from one you actually remember. Palladium is a hotel I remember because of how it made us feel.

Service, Points and Practical Comfort

A hotel like Electra Metropolis needs to be efficient because Athens is often part of a larger Greece itinerary. There may be airport transfers, island ferries, day tours, restaurant bookings and luggage logistics to think about. This is also where points and loyalty strategy can make a difference. Because we booked with Qantas points, the stay felt like a smart use of travel rewards, especially for a central five-star hotel with such a strong location. My husband is a Qantas Gold member, and we generally pay attention to loyalty programs and booking perks when we travel, because they can genuinely improve the experience through better value, smoother logistics or room benefits.

For Athens, I would rather use points or pay more for a central hotel than lose time and energy staying somewhere inconvenient.

What to Be Mindful Of in Mykonos

The main thing to be mindful of is not Palladium itself, but Mykonos as a destination. The island can be expensive, and some venues can take advantage of tourists if you are not careful.

The hotel actually warned us about DK Oyster, which I appreciated because it showed they were looking out for guests. More broadly, I would be careful with beach clubs, bars and restaurants around Mykonos. Always check drink prices, daybed prices, minimum spends and menu costs before ordering or sitting down.

This is especially important at popular beachfront venues. Some places have a reputation for charging very high prices, and it can ruin the experience if you do not check upfront.

Palladium felt like a safe, comfortable and honest base in a destination where you do need to be a little switched on.

What I Loved Most

What I loved most was the balance. Palladium gave us luxury, comfort, views, beach access, excellent gluten-free food and some of the warmest service we experienced in Greece.

It did not feel like we were constantly trying to keep up with Mykonos. The hotel softened the island for us. It gave us a beautiful base where we could enjoy the glamorous side of Mykonos, but still return to somewhere calm, friendly and genuinely welcoming.

The breakfast, the balcony views, the comfy bed, the gluten-free pizza and the service all stayed with me.

Who Should Book Palladium Hotel Mykonos

Palladium is best for couples, first-time Mykonos visitors, luxury travellers and anyone who wants to stay close to the beach without being in the middle of Mykonos Town. It works especially well if you want a boutique five-star hotel with warm service, beautiful rooms, strong breakfast, gluten-free-friendly food and easy access to Platis Gialos.

It is also a strong choice if you want Mykonos to feel stylish and relaxed rather than chaotic.

Who It May Not Suit

Palladium may not be the right hotel if you want to stay directly in Mykonos Town and walk everywhere at night. It may also not suit travellers who want a huge resort with extensive grounds or a completely remote villa-style stay.

If your priority is nightlife and you want to be in the centre of town every evening, a town-based hotel may suit you better. If your priority is a calmer luxury base near the beach, Palladium is a much stronger fit.

Booking Palladium Hotel Mykonos

If I were booking Palladium again, I would book early and compare room categories carefully. Mykonos is seasonal, and good hotels can become expensive quickly during peak months.

Why I would book it again: Palladium gave us a stylish Mykonos base with exceptional service, beautiful rooms, strong breakfast, excellent gluten-free options and close access to Platis Gialos Beach.

Best room type to consider: I would look at rooms with balcony views, sea views or higher-category options if you want the stay to feel more special. The views and room style really do add to the experience.

Best for: Couples, first-time Mykonos visitors, luxury travellers, gluten-free travellers, beach-focused stays and anyone wanting a polished hotel outside Mykonos Town.

Be mindful of: Transport costs, uphill walks, beach-club pricing, daybed charges and drink prices across Mykonos. Always check prices before ordering or settling into a beach venue.

My verdict: I would absolutely stay here again. Palladium Hotel Mykonos was luxurious, warm, beautifully located and genuinely memorable, with service that felt personal in a way many five-star hotels do not.
